Dr. Koç is a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and the National Magnetic Resonance Research Center (UMRAM) at Bilkent University. He leads AykutKoc Lab.

Dr. Koç received the B.S. degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2005 and then moved to Stanford University, CA, USA for graduate studies. He received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering in 2007, the M.S. degree in management science and engineering in 2009, and the Ph.D. degree (under the supervision of Professor Lambertus Hesselink) in electrical engineering in 2011, all from Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA. He also received a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree in Law from the Faculty of Law, Ankara University, Ankara, Turkey.

Dr. Koç holds the Associate Professor (“Docent”) title from the Interuniversity Council of the Republic of Turkey. He is currently an Associate Editor of IEEE Signal Processing Letters, IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks, and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Dr. Koç has authored or co-authored over 70 research papers, 1 book chapter and 4 issued patents. He has served as a reviewer for numerous prestigious journals including IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs, IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems, IEEE Access, Natural Language Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Law, ACM Transactions on Asian and Low-Resource Language Information Processing (TALLIP), Optics Letters, Optics Express, Applied Optics, Signal Processing – Elsevier, Digital Signal Processing – Elsevier, Signal, Image and Video Processing – Springer, Journal of Optical Society of America – A (JOSA A), Information Processing and Management, IET Signal Processing, International Journal of Electronics, Computers and Electronics in Agriculture – Elsevier. He also worked as scientific book proposal reviewer for the international publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Dr. Koç is the recipient of the Science Academy Young Scientists Award (BAGEP), 2023.

His research interests are in machine learning and signal processing that extend into natural language processing and graph signal processing.
