Emre Kopanoğlu studied at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Bilkent University between 2002 and 2006 with full scholarship. He is currently a Ph. D. candidate at the same department with full scholarship from Bilkent University and Ph. D. scholarship from Tübitak. Starting from January 2006, he has been a teaching assistant at the same department, with the first semester being as an undergraduate assistant. Since its opening in 2009, he has been a researcher at the National Magnetic Resonance Research Center (UMRAM).
His research interests are MR safety, SAR limits and SAR reduction, SNR limits and calculation, RF coils, RF encoding and nonlinear gradient fields with the main focus being on SAR reduction using alternative gradient encoding schemes.
His fields of specialization include biomedical imaging and electromagnetics with supporting knowledge in the areas of control theory, communications, signal processing and nanotechnology.
