Kalaivani Thangavel obtained her B.Sc. degree from Department of Physics, NGM College, Pollachi (India) in May 2001 and M.Sc. degree from Department of Physics, PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore (India) in May 2003. She received her M.Phil degree from Department of Physics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore (India) in March 2005. In April 2005, she received Junior Research Fellowship from Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), India and carried out her research work at Nanotechnology Research Center, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Virudhunagar (India) till September 2006. In November 2007, she won the PhD fellowship from Doctorate School of Physics, Astrophysics and Applied Physics, University of Milan, Milan (Italy) and obtained her Ph.D. degree in December 2010 under the supervision of Prof. Alessandro Lascialfari. During her Ph.D, she carried out part of her research at Institut Charles Gerhardt, University of Montpellier-II, Montpellier (France) under the supervision of Dr. Yannick Guari and obtained Diploma in European Doctorate in Molecular Magnetism (EDMM). Then she worked as a Post-Doctorate fellow at DiSAV, University of Piemonte Orientale “Amedeo Avogadro”, Alessandria (Italy) till May 2012 with Prof. Mauro Botta.

She worked at UMRAM, Bilkent University, Ankara (Turkey) as Post-Doctoral Researcher under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Emine Ulku Saritas. Her main research interests focused on novel magnetic nanoparticles for bio-medical applications such as MRI and MPI.
