New publication in Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases: Nimodipine and enoxaparin improve neurological outcomes and reduce cerebral edema by modulating glymphatic perivascular spaces in a rabbit model of subarachnoid hemorrhage

Oktay Algın and colleagues have published “Nimodipine and enoxaparin improve neurological outcomes and reduce cerebral edema by modulating glymphatic perivascular spaces in a rabbit model of subarachnoid hemorrhage” in Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases (May 2026).

In an exploratory study in rabbits with experimentally induced subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of bleeding around the brain, the researchers tested two drugs already used in clinical care, nimodipine and enoxaparin. Both improved neurological outcomes and reduced brain swelling, with changes in the perivascular spaces of the glymphatic system, the brain’s fluid clearance pathway. The study offers early clues on how these standard treatments may act after this kind of brain bleed.
