The 34th Graduate Research Conference, organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EE) and the IEEE Student Branch, took place on Thursday, January 25 in the lecture halls on the ground floor of the EE building. Bilkent EE graduate students described their state-of-the-art research projects in oral and poster presentations during this day-long event.
This year’s conference included 38 oral presentations grouped into nine sessions, with three sessions occurring concurrently during each of the three time blocks.
In the oral sessions, graduate students shared their research projects and answered questions from the audience. Various electrical and electronics engineering areas were covered, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, biomedical technologies, communications and networking, control and robotics, electromagnetics, electronics, integrated circuits and systems, nanotechnology, optics and photonics, and signal processing.
During the two poster sessions, attendees had the opportunity to interact with the 25 presenters and learn more about research in the EE department. The conference also included some invited poster/demo presentations by EE undergraduate students.
From among the presentations, the event jury selected three oral presentations for the “Best Oral Presentation” award and one poster presentation for the “Best Poster Presentation” award. The oral presentation awards went to Hasan Atakan Bedel, Burak Çatalbaş and Abdullah Erkam Arslan, while Bilal Kabaş received the poster presentation award.
Prof. Süleyman Serdar Kozat of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering chaired the conference. EE graduate students Ahmet Safa Öztürk, Issifu Iddrisu and Ecem Şimşek along with undergraduate students Zeynep Naz Bayındır (EE/II) and Baturalp Sönmez (CTIS/III), from the IEEE Bilkent Student Branch, took part in organizing the event.
The event offered a day full of knowledge sharing and a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to experience the world of research in engineering and science. Participants had the chance to interact with researchers from other universities and professionals from some of the top engineering companies in Turkey.
